As an Australian I have much in common with the people of America.

A former boss of mine said "When you talk to people around the world we all have one thing in common - we want the world to be a better place for our children".

While America stood for a better future for the world it had great support from common people.

The view now is that unless the leadership of your once great country changes it's approach then you are heading for a worse place than America was or is.
The things that concern me are the position of America on the world table of infant mortality, quality of elementary school education, acess to affordable health care and transparency in government.
I don't see much coming out of America at prese ntthat we in Australia should be adopting. This is a change from 40 years ago when we carefully adopted much that was good, useful and right.

I worry that the American people are not far from a severe recession which will bring great misery and retard the growth of a whole generation. I worry that unless the political elite starts to look after the people rather than the corporations that your country will fracture into disparate entities with different world views, economies and their own sets of nuclear weapons.

These things happened to the USSR when it overstretched and could no longer mobilise it's citizens with the prospect that "Yes - things will be better for our children!"

What I'm suggesting that America is now seen as a Great Power that is in decline. It will use all of it's power to delay and defend it's position. Eventually it will need to depend more on Allies and diplomacy to achieve desired outcomes. In the meantime the people of America need to consider who will be their future Allies and why would they bother with a country that no longer stands for decent values, freedom and true justice.

Good Luck with your Journey.

Mike

Perth,
Western Australia.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
